Chairpersons Statement

The association will strive to ensure that our local area becomes a beacon of successful urban regeneration in the next ten years. The Associations are set up by local businesses to help local traders and entrepreneurs to develop and expand their businesses and promote new business, commerce, and industry in our area and deliver business support services at the grass root level. The association having just started up has a long way to go. The Association is still developing a sustainability strategy to reflect the needs of its members and the Association’s capacity to deliver those to the local business, commerce, and industries. Currently the Association is developing partnerships and identifying opportunities for support.

Our goals

To facilitate a Community based Business Incubation Centre. To make our area more secure by inwards investments and investing community resources in CCTV and other major initiative.

To lever greater financial, physical, and human resources into our area as a means of promoting a better quality of life and drawing down resources in the area.

To involve ourselves in local and regional decision making processes and be involved at policy making level with key agencies for the social, cultural, and economic betterment of the communities in the area.

Nazar Hussain

My name is Nazar Hussain, and lived and worked within the Small Heath area I have seen this area go down hill so fast, that something needed to be done. I got together with many residents to do something about this. nazar

For the last 20 years I have been a very active activist. I am the Chair for The Green Association. From this platform I have been able to challenge many of the councillors, who over the years failed us, in a big way. They were being elected on the name of brotherly, not on the capability of doing or delivering any work. Our community was left to suffer from the lack of parks, schools, nursery, day centres and activities for the young people.

I am currently a School Governor and on the Education Working Group, to tackle the nursery issues, schools etc. This has led to a Children Centre being built and a refurbishment for a nursery at Marlborough Infant School.

For the Parks I am on the Friends of Small Heath Park Committee. Created a new play area at Henry Barber Park, further phases to be completed such a disabled play area, nursery, seating area and a football arena for the young people. Consultation is in progress for the Grange Park, situated on Grange Road.

The first Business or Traders Association I have taken part in was the Green Lane Traders Association, currently I have heard nothing. Last year the another opportunity has risen to create another, named the Coventry Road Traders Association. I totally objected, as this would not benefit other roads, corner shops.

The idea for the Small Heath Business Association, was created. I am currently the Treasure for this Organisation. As you have read the profile of the other Directors or this newsletter, this is just the beginning of the good work and friendship we have created for the benefit of the traders in Small Heath.

We all hope that we can all work together, and have one aim. This aim should in return be part of our dream. This dream, if we all work hard will come true.
